Shrink sleeves have become very popular for all types of products over the last few years. This popularity will only continue for years to come. However, creating designs for shrink sleeves are a little different than other types of packaging. There are numerous things you need to keep in mind if you decide to create shrink sleeves for your packaging needs.

Remember, although you are still designing a rectangular area, it will look slightly different after it has been through production. Some things will appear smaller, so keep this in mind. Be sure to print out and test the design before you get too far in your final design. This will help you figure out what needs to be moved or changed. Be willing to move text to a different part of the sleeve or change your design. Flexibility will be key to finding just the right design for your packaging.

Also, when designing for shrink sleeves, don’t make your design overly elaborate. Using realistic photographic images, geometric shapes, or proportional graphics could make your design look off once it has gone through the process. If you do decide to use things like geometric shapes, be sure to keep them off the high distortion areas. This will ensure your design is true to form.

Finally, mind your color scheme. Colors can evoke different types of emotions or feelings in your customer. Be sure you know your product well and what you want to convene to your customers. Shades of red suggest a sense of urgency, while blues bring a feeling of calm and trust. Also, look at your own brand’s color scheme and try to incorporate it in your packaging design.

Shrink sleeve packaging can be a great way to present your product to a consumer. Just keep in mind these tips when you start to create you next shrink sleeve.
